Best of Cuba and Canada combined in this class. Although I joined midway through the Beginner classes and have only taken a few lessons so far, I was genuinely surprised by how much I’ve learned in such a short time.
Sara and Carlos create an amazing atmosphere — it truly feels like a friends-and-family gathering. They treat everyone with warmth and respect, patiently walking us through the steps and answering every question, even outside of class hours through social media (something no other instructor does in Vancouver). This couple has manners and kindness, qualities that are becoming rare these days. Their teaching style is fun, engaging, and makes learning easy. Our last class was especially memorable: we all went to a Cuban restaurant on Commercial Drive, enjoyed great food and drinks, and danced afterward until they kicked us out! They also host a monthly social event at (former) D2 that is a lot of fun and very well organized.
Learning Cuban salsa with Carlos and Sara has been an amazing experience! Their passion for dance is contagious, and their teaching style is both fun and effective. They break down the steps in a way that makes them easy to understand, even for someone like me who was new to the style. Their patience, encouragement, and energy made every lesson enjoyable, and I could feel my confidence growing with each session. Tuesday night salsa class with Carlos and Sara has become my favourite night of the week. I joined the class to learn some salsa steps, but this class is so much more. Carlos and Sara teach with such passion and love, not only salsa, but the culture as well. Through this class I have learned many wonderful salsa steps, but I have also made new friends and found a new community, one passionate about spreading the love of salsa and having fun by dancing together too.
Carlos and Sara are the perfect combination when it comes to teaching Cuban salsa. They bring together excellent techniques, openness, and a well-structured class where you can clearly see progress from day one. I can’t imagine continuing my journey of becoming a better and more enjoyable dancer without their hands-on instruction. Don’t waste your time looking elsewhere—this amazing team will never steer you wrong!
What a fun class Carlos and Sara have created to learn Cuban Salsa! Rich and I knew very little about the dance style and decided to register to try something new and we’re glad we did. From the way the steps were broken down to the patient and welcoming environment – the class was a great way to spend our Wednesday evenings. And because Carlos and Sara are plugged into the dance community – there are lots of opportunities to put our steps into practice. We’ve always loved the music and now we can dance with the right moves!
I have been taking Cuban salsa lessons from Karlos and Sara for several years on and off. If you want to learn how to dance the original Cuban salsa way, then you need to try Estilo Cubano right here in Vancouver. Karlos is a very patient teacher. His classes are fun, you don’t need to have a partner, come and experience and enjoy this group setting. You will definitely learn, improve, and grow the way Karlos and Sara teach. If I can do it you certainly will too.
Learning from Karlos and Sara has brought a newfound joy to my dancing. With their passion for not only dance but people, I’ve learned authentic moves along with an understanding of the culture that brings each step to life. I’m truly grateful to have stumbled into their little community.

We have been attending Karlos’ Cuban Salsa classes since April 2010, and it was one of the best decisions we ever made. Karlos is immeasurably knowledgeable and extremely passionate about his craft, and he is a phenomenal teacher as well. His classes are out of this world… and he has certainly achieved the impossible when he taught the two of us how to dance!
We really enjoy Karlos’ rueda class. It is a fun class, as we laugh a lot throughout the lesson while we learn. Karlos has great patience; I have been learning to lead for the past couple years and I am just starting to become competent.
Karlos and Sara of Estilo Cubano are wonderful teachers! They teach complicated Rueda moves in a way that feels effortless and fun. You’ll never get through a class without learning something new and having a good laugh. Dancing with them is the next best thing to visiting Havana!
I really enjoy taking Rueda de Casino Salsa Lessons with Karlos and Sara not only because they are my favorite salsa instructors but also they make classes so much fun. I highly recommend them, they are the best salsa instructors I ever had.

Karlos is a masterful salsa teacher; knowledgable, talented, kind and wildly funny. He keeps a watchful eye on all dancers, makes certain not to leave any one behind and is always there to keep you moving ahead in learning the moves. The most fun you’ll ever have whether you’re brand new to Cuban Salsa dance or are a seasoned veteran! I’ve been taking classes with Karlos and Sara for 5 years and the passion they have for sharing this dance and being able to expertly teach each move is only trumped by the utmost dedication and commitment they have for their students…. rather their ‘family of students.’ You can’t help but feel inspired, encouraged, energized and part of a true community. It gets in your blood and you feel it in your heart – their classes are addictive!
